Home is Where the Heart is
My Grandmother was always a strong and independent woman. Even after her husband died, she continued to live happily alone in her house nearby and was an integral part of all our lives. She picked me up from school everyday, babysat me when my parents went out and we often visited her as she enjoyed the company of her family in her home. My Grandmother aged as the years moved on and it soon became obvious that she was tiring and battling to look after herself. She had to stop driving too and became house bound which left her depressed. We discussed options like retirement homes but, with her strong independent streak, it was clear she didn’t want to give up the one thing she still had and that was her home where her memories and personal treasures lay. Live-in care was the answer to our prayers. Her carer helped my Grandmother live through each day comfortably in her own home and gave us absolute peace of mind.
